Look: I am eager to learn stuff I don't know--which requires actively courting and posting smart disagreement.

But as you will understand, I don't like to post things that mischaracterize and are aimed to mislead.

Wednesday Poetry Blogging

And now, for something completely different:

A poem by 9-yr-old granddaughter Rebekka.

A Girl

I know a girl
Who loves to loves to dance.
When she dances,
It's almost like she is floating on air.

I know a girl who loves to swim.
When she swims,
It seems like she's flying under water.

I know a girl who likes to dream big dreams.
When she dreams,
She goes to her own land that will always be hers . . .

This girl is . . .
Smart,
Funny,
Hilarious,
Sweet and,
Fabulous!
No girl in the whole world can ever be even close,
Ever be even similar to her.

Rebekka -- very nice poem. I think maybe you know who that girl is, right?

JazzB: please tell Rebecca that her poem is very nice. Great similes (I leave to you to explain that word to her if she hasn't studied it yet!). Thanks for sharing it with us.

Jazzbumpa, I almost forgot to take you up on your invitation. Rebekkah's poem was lovely. She has inherited some valuable DNA (or is it RNA?? ;o)) I liked you recent haikus too.

Thanks!

I love the way this poem is organized.

Full disclosure: Rebekka is the LW's grandaughter (we play nice and share) so the DNA comes from other sources.

I didn't ask her about interpreting this poem, but my take is - first verse is about big sister Amanda, 2nd is about little sister Samantha, 3rd is about the author.

The laundry list is about any/all.

The final couplet is about any girl or every girl, each unique in her own way.

Rather deep for a 9-Y-O, IMHO.

Cheers!

Cool poem. The first three verses could be song lyrics, the fourth doesn't fit but I'd put music to the first three in a DIxie minute. Tell Rebekka good work :).
