Look: I am eager to learn stuff I don't know--which requires actively courting and posting smart disagreement.

But as you will understand, I don't like to post things that mischaracterize and are aimed to mislead.

What the Hell Friday - Herman Cain Edition

I just heard Rachel and Eugene Robinson discussing the extraordinary weirdness of the Herman Cain campaign - if it is indeed a campaign.  They were speaking of it as performance art.  I have to admit that never occurred to me, and now it reminds me a bit of Pat Paulson.

The even weirder thing about this video is that the crowd cheers - wildly and with reckless abandon - when Cain says," I am the Koch brothers brother from, another mother."   OK - it was at a function sponsored by the Koch brothers group Americans for Prosperity.

If this is parody, it's brilliant, maybe even genius.  If it's real, then Cain is an inestimable buffoon.

The weirdest thing of all is that I seriously have no idea which of these propositions comes closer to the truth.

Where Have I Been?

In case you

1) give a rip
2) don't have access to my cell phone.

here is a lousy pic I took with the phone's camera function.

So, as you can plainly see, I was in a largish room with Wayne Bergeron and some other cats.  This was rehearsal for our performance last Monday.

Wayne is an amazing musician and a VERY cool guy.  It was a thrill and real treat to perform with him.

Here is one of the songs we did.  There are a lot of YouTube vids of Wayne performing this sweet minor blues by Tom Kubis with various groups.

UPDATE:  Full disclosure - in case it is not perfectly clear, this is NOT the group I play with.

What the Hell Friday - Trained Dolphins, Monkey Submarines, and the Hot Chick from MythBusters

The Big Polluter formerly known as British Petroleum, then BP-Amoco, now just BP, will always be BRITISH PETROLEUM in our minds and hearts.  This Colbert clip is a few days old, but since the crude spew will probably go on for weeks and months, its not likely to get stale any time soon.

What the Hell?!? Friday

Yes, it is Christmas.  But, it is also Friday.

So - what the hell - it might also be  C’thrishm’sh!

Which could mean a visit from  Sog-Nug-hotep

It's possible, isn't it?  Just, maybe, with enough love and craft, that, "On this odd day squid may abide with you?"

May you be blessed with a ten-tentacular day of cheer, love, joy and mollusks.

Mellow Yellow Monday 11/23

This art work was produced by granddaughters a few weeks before we tore the deck out and replaced it with a paver brick patio.

Could also have been a shadow shot.

Movie Blogging - Julie and Julia

Yesterday, my lovely wife and I saw this movie. She read the book a couple of years ago, before it was quite so popular, and I am reading it now. This movie evidently falls into the category of "chick-flick*" so I'm a bit conflicted about admitting how much I liked it, which was rather a lot. I'm also enjoying the book, but that is, so to speak, another story.

Sunday Music Blogging

This week we lost Mary Travis to cancer. She was 72. Peter, Paul and Mary recorded IF I HAD A HAMMER for their first, eponymous album, released in 1962, when I was 15. The group's music helped to define both the ethics and the aesthetics of the 60's. Mary's pure voice, slender torso, and long straight hair set the standard for the sound and the look of a decade. She was beautiful to look at, and beautiful to hear.

RIP Mary Travis. We are poorer now.

The YouTube page with the video above also has a brief, but very nice bio.

Got Talent?

I had no idea the "Somewhere's Got Talent" idea was so wide spread.

Here are a couple of very different examples from the former Soviet Block.
