Way back in 1980, in a rare moment of lucid candor, a leader of movement conservatism very bluntly laid out why he hates democracy.
By their words shall you know them.

This should be the best time of life, but . . . (instead, we are become flaming squid huggers)
Look: I am eager to learn stuff I don't know--which requires actively courting and posting smart disagreement.
But as you will understand, I don't like to post things that mischaracterize and are aimed to mislead.

But they always fall over themselves to point out that the US is a republic, not a democracy, and Democracy Is Bad(TM) because democracy is "the tyranny of the majority." As if there were any way in a free country to keep the majority from doing WTF they want to do anyhow, other than lots and lots of guns and repression. Which apparently they like. As long as it's guns and repression on *their* side, the minority side, oppressing the majority that is. The other way around... not so much.
Let's face it, they're lovers of tyranny, period. They excuse it by saying they (the minority) are right and everybody else is wrong so it's only right to force the majority to go along with their whims at gunpoint, but tyranny it was, tyranny it is, and tyranny it always will be that gets their little soldier erect and spurtin'. Just sayin'.
