Republicans simply make shit up. It's astounding that they think they can get away with it - but evidently, they're right.
Because if you want to read any actual reporting on it, you have to leave the continent.
And we are SO screwed.

Yeah, like Ronald Reagan simply making sh*t up about welfare whores and stuff like that, and he never got called on it by the SCLM. We've been fscked for a *LONG* time. Reagan was the prototype of the modern Republican -- he lied with a straight face and all apparent sincerity, and often enough got his lies accepted as truth despite the fact that they were clear and transparent balderdash if you just stepped back and examined them in the light of day, and every Republican since then has done his best to emulate Reagan. Who needs facts anyhow, when you can just make sh*t up?

You can see at the link Chaz provides that many elected Rethugs really do believe the party line. I know a lot of smart technically educated people who think this way, too. It's really sad.
I think Booman is an optomist. If people understood their self interest and voted accordingly, the rethugs would lose every election by a landslide.
