A bit, but has a bit of soul--the Bolero itself seems a bit schmaltzy--or sugary, really--tho' not lacking a bit of passion. Ravel tho' usually mixes in some exotic spices with el azucar.

Ravel did not have the greatest ear for melody, IMHO. His piano pieces are just too much--some beauty, but hyper-technical and ...odd. Ravel himself could not play many of them. That Argentinian broad-_Argerich--plays very nice Ravel (and mo').Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11567400697675996283noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4290163255778893789.post-25447821996391793132010-01-17T10:48:05.629-05:002010-01-17T10:48:05.629-05:00BT had another FZ cut up the other day, Jesus Thin...BT had another FZ cut up the other day, Jesus Thinks You're a Jerk - probably from this same concert. I was impressed with the bone player. Here, he really schmaltzes it up. It's pretty cool, but he'd never gat away with that in a Symphony Orch.

I'm not really up on French music, though like both Ravel and Debussy well enough. Don't know about their respective bad trips. We all have our cross to bear.

Cheers (or somethin')
JzBJazzbumpahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07337490817307473659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4290163255778893789.post-65215730810455927482010-01-17T10:19:56.643-05:002010-01-17T10:19:56.643-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Jhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11567400697675996283noreply@blogger.com
